Ouija simply means "yes/no", but this powerful tool has a great deal of bad press, and for valid reasons. In the hands of people who are open, the board acts like a portal drawing spirits in: but an antisocial person does not stop being antisocial just because they have left their physical body, and mischievous spirits can still lie or mislead. This is a tool not to be used by novices and it is recommended that the people using it know how to distinguish between those they would let in and those they would not, and more importantly how to close the board down properly. At least one person using the board must be in total control at all times, and dissuade people of a nervous disposition from participation.

Psychic abilities can be used to pick up on energies that may not be detected by any of the other senses, but most people are not sensitive enough to feel them. The job of a medium first and foremost is to act as a conduit and to prove the existence of life after death. This is very difficult when facing the naturally sceptical person, paranormal equipment was developed to give a more scientific basis of proof for those people.

It is a fact that all of physical reality is surrounded and permeated by an electromagnetic field commonly called EMFs and the highest readings are caused by electrical equipment, but are easily identified by their consistency. However in haunted places erratic readings cannot be so easily explained, especially in the absence of anything physical that could cause it.
